Pomona, CA (November 11, 2017) - Qualifying at the 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals took place November 10th and 11th at Auto Club Raceway of Pomona in Pomona, California. For Gray Motorsports Father and Son Pro Stock team Shane and Tanner Gray, this would be the final time of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series that the two would get to race together before a two month break in racing action.

For the younger of the two Gray’s, Tanner, qualifying was very consistent. His Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro would run in the top of the pack all weekend long.

“After Vegas we stayed and tested on Monday,” Tanner said. “We had several solid runs that I believe gave the entire team confidence heading into this weekend. We have had a good weekend of qualifying, I have been consistent on the tree, and am ready to race tomorrow.”

For Father Shane Gray, qualifying efforts provided more track data for the Gray Motorsports team and would put him in the middle of the competitive 16 car field come race day.

“It’s fun being back in a pro stock car,” Shane said. “We have a great team that is able to get our cars running well in just about any conditions.”

Tanner earned himself the number six spot with a 6.562 seconds at 210.50 mph and will face Alex Laughlin round one tomorrow.

Shane will start race day from the number twelve spot with his 6.595 seconds at 210.64 mph and will face Bo Butner first round on race day.

Mello Yello Drag Racing Series final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12. Three hours of final’s broadcast coverage can be found on FS1, Sunday, Nov. 12, beginning at 4:00 p.m. (ET).
